STTNG ECHO RULES (Update 10/21/92)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" conference, tag STTNG.
This conference is moderated and coordinated by Joe Siegler, and is Co-
Moderated by Joe Salemi. We can be reached via the following...
Joe Siegler
FidoNET Netmail at 1:273/928
Usenet/Internet joe.siegler@satalink.com
GEnie at J.SIEGLER1
Oggnet, Node AOF, User #1
Joe Salemi
FidoNET Netmail at 1:109/136
Compu$erve at 72631,23
MCI Mail at 443-3961
For the dates of October 21st thru December 31st, 1992, there will be two
Co-Moderators appointed to maintain stability in the conference duing Joe
Siegler's temporary abscense due to a personal move. They are:
Mike Beltzner at Fido Location 1:163/253.1701
Mark Holtz at Fido Location 1:203/90.1701
Their word is to be considered as "law" in the confernece for said dates
stated above. They are authorized to give warnings to users, and generally
act as me. I will be consulted on matters regarding access cuts, however.
There are no FLAMES (of ANY type, including of characters on the
television series, or other members of the echo), commercial
advertisements, private, or personal messages allowed in this echo.
Messages must be POLITE in nature and kept to the topic of mature
discussions about "Star Trek: The Next Generation". It is NOT for the
discussion of the original Star Trek series or comparisons of the two
series. In particular, messages claiming one series is "better" are
unwelcome.
While they are not encouraged, the use of "handles" or anonymous names
is permitted providing their use is not to conceal the identity of a
person posting malicious messages. Please don't use IBM-type
"high-ASCII" (>127) characters in messages or origin lines; they mess up
some of the many non-IBM systems that use this echo.
Messages concerning episodes not yet broadcast on "open" (non-satellite)
channels are DIScouraged, and MUST identify themselves with the words
"SPOILER WARNING" at the top of the message, and followed by at least
24 lines containing at least one character (perferably a period "."),
with the rest of the line blank. Open conversations on episodes will be
permitted following it's week of run. For example, an episode sent over the
satellite on October 4th will not be permitted to have open discussion on it
until October 12th. Any talk of it in the meantime will HAVE to be prefaced
with the appropriate spoiler warnings.
As of the time of this writing (per request), discussions regarding the
upcoming Deep Space Nine TV series are on-topic. Participants are urged,
however, to make use of the STDSN Conference for this purpose. Deep Space
Nine discussions will be OFF TOPIC come January 1st, 1993. Futhermore, do
NOT discuss Babylon 5 in any form in the conference.
Participants are instructed to IGNORE off-topic and flame messages.
Please leave the moderating to the moderators. Surveys, questionaires,
polls, etc. are NOT to be run in THIS conference without PRIOR
moderator approval. Messages regarding the moderation of the echo, or
the actions of the moderators, are to be sent in NETMAIL -- discussions
on the moderation of the echo are OFF-TOPIC for the echo itself. The
position of moderator in this echo is an appointed, not elected,
position.
When quoting text in the process of replying to a message, please only
quote the 2 or 3 lines (max) necessary to convey the point to which you
are replying. Quoting messages in their entirety (including tear and
origin 'vanity' lines) runs up everybody's phone bill! Users are also
advised NOT to quote garbled messages -- doing so only compounds the
problems some systems have with them.
Each SysOp that receives this Echo is responsible for any and all
traffic that originates from his/her system. This includes messages from
Users of his/her system, and any point operators of that system.
Failure to comply with this conference policy will result in:
1) First public warning on the echo
2) Second warning on the echo and in NetMail
3) Final warning on the echo and in Netmail, with CC: to the
sysop of your system.
Thereafter, the offending user will be suspended from the echo, or the
offending system's links WILL be cut. The Moderators retain the right to
circumvent their own rules for warnings, if they feel that the infraction
warrants it.
Additionally, this conference is available as GroupMail from 1:107/583,
7:520/583, or 9:807/1. If received as GroupMail, this conference may
not be re-converted to echomail.
Sysops getting this conference are prohibited from allowing the
following users access to it, as they have been banned due to frequent
rules violations: Art Werner aka "Sal Devita" aka "Thong Lo" aka Mark
Clark, Eric Lutz, David Earnest, James Dixon, Justin Cordesman, Sean
Greiser, and John Smith.
These rules will be posted to the echo at least once a week. Use common
sense, people, and we'll all get along. Enjoy the conference!
